Long struggle against Indonesia oil palm land grab written by GRAIN

Last year, GRAIN (a small international NGO) and the Asian Peasant Coalition (APC) jointly agreed for a collaborative project to document the struggle of peasant community affected by palm oil in Indonesia. On June 2013, the Aliansi Gerakan Reforma Agraria (AGRA) hosted Devlin Kuyek from GRAIN and Pietro Polini of Terra Project. They visited Buol community in Central Sulawesi, Indonesia and they documented the struggle of Buo farmers.
The Buol community, like other indigenous communities in Indonesia, has lived on its ancestral lands for many generations, over thousands of years. Land tenure is held communally, in groups, with the capabilities and distribution of agricultural products based on the needs of each family in each group. Now, the area has been converted into oil palm plantations, office areas, camps for the plantation workers and a CPO (crude palm oil) processing factory.
